Great piece, thank you for this. I always thought land raised salmon was just as bad, if not even worse. Since the water can become stagnant and the salmon are also bottled up like a New York resident (great reference btw)

Agree that it doesn't seem all that appetizing, although I think that they have pretty sophisticated systems these days to keep clean water circulating. And definitely need to look into the animal welfare issues--I can imagine those tanks result in a lot of stressed-out fish (much like Manhattanites). But on the water pollution, sea lice, and escape questions they are better solutions.

Absolutely fantastic article. Just highlighting all the problems that lots of us were aware of with farmed salmon. Can now only get wild salmon in the uk legally from the River Tweed which is a very sad state of affairs!
